Short Story : The Meaning Of Everything

One day young Smith found some money on the street.
“But, was it just a coincidence?” thought Smith. “Or was it the hand of God reaching through time and creation for a specific purpose, a plan?”
The next day Smith ran a stop sign by mistake. He hit, but just barely, the back of a car belonging to the girl he wanted to marry yet had been too shy to talk to.
“Was it a coincidence, or fate? Had God arranged the meeting, the time of day, the speed?”
Often, and more than one would expect in a day, young Smith’s life was influenced by coincidence.
“What could it mean?” he thought, “Certainly it was not common for coincidental events to focus so frequently on one person. There must be a hidden meaning, a very special reason behind the events.”
To learn the truth young Smith went on a long voyage. He traveled very far to meet the wisest man in the world. For months and months he traveled, and that with bad company, and bad food, and he slept in the dirt with animals, snakes, and crawling bugs.
Finally he found and sat before the wisest man.
In exact detail, and excitedly, he told the wisest man every aspect of each coincidence. “What does it all mean?” he asked, and he sat back, folded his arms and relaxed.
He knew what the wise man would say. That he, young Smith, was rare, even chosen, that coincidences for him were exceptions illuminating an exceptional life. That great deeds and rewards lay ahead of him.
Smith waited. He waited and waited.
The wise man sat, smiled at a distant thought, lit a long wooden pipe, and pulled a blanket over the thin slope of his shoulders.
“What does it all mean? Nothing,” he said. “It means nothing,” and he smiled as before.

Short Story : Intelligence !!!

An old man lived alone in a village. He wanted to spade his potato garden, but it was very hard work. His only son, who would have helped him, was in prison. The old man wrote a letter to his son and mentioned his situation.

Dear Son, I am feeling pretty bad because it looks like I won't be able to plant my potato garden this year. I hate to miss doing the garden, because your mother always loved planting time. I'm just getting too old to be digging up a garden plot. If you were here, all my troubles would be over. I know you would dig the plot for me, if you weren't in prison. Love, Dad

Shortly, the old man received this Telegram -
"For Heaven's sake, Dad, don't dig up the garden. That's where I buried the GUNS" at 4a.m.
The next morning, a dozen FBI agents and local police officers showed up and dug up the entire garden without finding any guns.
Confused, the old man wrote another note to his son telling him what happened, and asked him what to do next.
His son's reply was: "Go ahead and plant your potatoes, Dad. It's the best I could do for you from here ."

- Moral of the Story - No matter where you are in the world, if you have decided to do something deep from you heart, you can do it.

Story : This Too Shall Pass

Once a king called upon all of his wise men and asked them, "Is there a mantra or suggestion which works in every situation, in every circumstances, in every place and in every time. In every joy, every sorrow, every defeat and every victory? One answer for all questions? Something which can help me when none of you is available to advise me? Tell me is there any mantra?"

All the wise men were puzzled by the King’s question. They thought and thought. After a lengthy discussion, an old man suggested something which appealed to all of them. They went to the king and gave him something written on paper, with a condition that the king was not to see it out of curiosity.

Only in extreme danger, when the King finds himself alone and there seems to be no way, only then he can see it. The King put the papers under his Diamond ring.

Some time later, the neighbors attacked the Kingdom. King and his army fought bravely but lost the battle. The King had to flee on his horse. The enemies were following him. getting closer and closer. Suddenly the King found himself standing at the end of the road - that road was not going anywhere. Underneath there was a rocky valley thousand feet deep. If he jumped into it, he would be finished…and he could not return because it was a small road…the sound of enemy’s horses was approaching fast. The King became restless. There seemed to be no way.

Then suddenly he saw the Diamond in his ring shining in the sun, and he remembered the message hidden in the ring. He opened the diamond and read the message. The message was - ” THIS TOO SHALL PASS”

The King read it . Again read it. Suddenly something struck him- Yes ! This too will pass. Only a few days ago, I was enjoying my kingdom. I was the mightiest of all the Kings. Yet today, the Kingdom and all his pleasure have gone. I am here trying to escape from enemies. Like those days of luxuries have gone, this day of danger too will pass. A calm came on his face. He kept standing there. The place where he was standing was full of natural beauty. He had never known that such a beautiful place was also a part of his Kingdom.

The revelation of the message had a great effect on him. He relaxed and forgot about those following him. After a few minutes he realized that the noise of the horses and the enemy coming was receding. They moved into some other part of the mountains and were near him.

The King was very brave. He reorganized his army and fought again. He defeated the enemy and regained his empire. When he returned to his empire after victory, he was received with much fanfare. The whole capital was rejoicing in the victory.

Everyone was in a festive mood. Flowers were being showered on King from every house, from every corner. People were dancing and singing. For a moment King said to himself,” I am one of the bravest and greatest King. It is not easy to defeat me. With all the reception and celebration he saw an ego emerging in him.

Suddenly the Diamond of his ring flashed in the sunlight and reminded him of the message. He open it and read it again: “THIS TOO SHALL PASS”.

He became silent. His face went through a total change - from the egoist he moved to a state of utter humbleness. If this too is going to pass, it is not yours. The defeat was not yours, the victory is not yours. You are just a watcher. Everything passes by. We are witnesses of all this. We are the perceivers. Life comes and goes. Happiness comes and goes. Sorrow comes and goes.

Now as you have read this story, just sit silently and evaluate your own life. This too will pass. Think of the moments of joy and victory in your life. Think of the moment of Sorrow and defeat. Are they permanent ? They all come and pass away.

Life just passes away. There is nothing permanent in this world. Every thing changes except the law of change. Think over it from your own perspective. You have seen all the changes. You have survived all setbacks, all defeats and all sorrows. All have passed away. The problems in the present, they too will pass away. Because nothing remains forever. Joy and sorrow are the two faces of the same coin. They both will pass away.

You are just a witness of change. Experience it, understand it, and enjoy the present moment - this too shall pass

Story : Wish of The Horse

A cosmic god had a horse. The horse was beautiful and also it had many good qualities. But it wanted to be more perfect in every way. It especially wanted to become beauty unparalleled.

One day the horse said to the cosmic god, “0 Lord, you have given me beauty. You have given me other good qualities. I am so grateful to you. But how I wish you could make me more beautiful. I would be extremely, extremely grateful if you could make me more beautiful.”

The cosmic god said, “I am more than ready to make you more beautiful. Tell me in what way you want to be changed.”

The horse said, “It seems to me that I am not well proportioned. My neck is too short. If you can make my neck a little longer, my upper body will be infinitely more beautiful. And if you can make my legs much longer and thinner, then I will look infinitely more beautiful in my lower body.”

The cosmic god said, “Amen!” Then immediately he made a camel appear in place of the horse. The horse was so disheartened that it started to cry, “0 Lord, I wanted to become more beautiful. In what way is this kind of outer form more beautiful?”

The cosmic god said, “This is exactly what you asked for. You have become a camel.”

The horse cried, “Oh no, I do not want to become a camell I wish to remain a horse. As a horse, everybody appreciated my good qualities. Nobody will appreciate me as a camel.”

The cosmic god said, “Never try to achieve or receive more than I have given you. If you want to lead a desire-life, then at every moment you will want more and more. But you have no idea what the outcome will be. If you cry for a longer neck and legs, this is what will happen. Each thing in my creation has its own good qualities. The camel is not as beautiful as you are, but it carries heavy loads and has a tremendous sense of responsibility.

Short Story : The Farmer and The Frog Noise

A farmer came into town and asked the owner of a restaurant if he could use a million frog legs. The restaurant owner was shocked and asked the man where he could get so many frog legs! The farmer replied, 'There is a pond near my house that is full of frogs - millions of them. They all croak all night long and they are about to make me crazy!' So the restaurant owner and the farmer made an agreement that the farmer would deliver frogs to the restaurant, five hundred at a time for the next several weeks.

The first week, the farmer returned to the restaurant looking rather sheepish, with two scrawny little frogs. The restaurant owner said, 'Well... where are all the frogs?' The farmer said, 'I was mistaken. There were only these two frogs in the pond. But they sure were making a lot of noise!'

Morale:-Next time you hear somebody criticizing or making fun of you, remember, it's probably just a couple of noisy frogs. Also remember that problems always seem bigger in the dark. Have you ever laid in your bed at night worrying about things which seem almost overwhelming like a million frogs croaking? Chances are pretty good that when the morning comes, and you take a closer look, you'll wonder what all the fuss was about.

IDEA OF WORK - BY SWAMI VIVEKANANDA

To work properly, therefore, you have first to give up the idea of attachment. Secondly, do not mix in the fray, hold yourself as a witness and go on working. My master used to say, "Look upon your children as a nurse does." The nurse will take your baby and fondle it and play with it and behave towards it as gently as if it were her own child; but as soon as you give her notice to quit, she is ready to start off bag and baggage from the house.

Work and Thought - By Swami Vivekananda

There is a great tendency in modern times to talk too much of work and decry thought. Doing is very good, but that comes from thinking. Little manifestations of energy through the muscles are called work. But where there is no thought, there will be no work. Fill the brain, therefore, with high thoughts, highest ideals, place them day and night before you, and out of that will come great work. Talk not about impurity, but say that we are pure. We have hypnotized ourselves into this thought that we are little, that we are born, and that we are going to die, and into a constant state of fear.

Hatred !

Hatred, ill will or anger is that tendency within us which resents an action of another which challenges our right to what we desire. Our general tendency is to try and dominate others, and we want others to obey our will while suppressing their own; so when someone opposes his will against ours, our action is like that of a gog with a bone when another dog approaches.

The Mr. Bean Story

Rowan Atkinson was born on January 6, 1955, in Durham, England. Rowan was the youngest of four boys. He was sent to two boarding schools, both of which were run under the auspices of the Church of England.  First, it was the Durham Choristers School, which had the reputation of trying to push students towards the Anglican priesthood. In his 1999 biography, Rowan Atkinson, author Bruce Dessau quoted Canon John Grove as remembering Atkinson as ‘shy with a slight stutter and a slightly rubbery face just like the one he has now.’ Later, when at St. Bees School, Chris Robson,  Atkinson’s A-level physics master, said, “In class he was very middle of the road. There was nothing outstanding about him. I didn’t expect him to become a fantastic scientist. And he was a quiet lad who walked his own path.”
However, Robson remembered Atkinson’s school drama career more vividly, “But when he walked on-stage he was exceptional.” Dessau quotes another faculty member at St. Bees as saying, “Even an incipient stammer vanished whenever the young Atkinson stepped onto the stage.
In fact, a March 24, 2007, article in The Independent stated that a young Atkinson was bullied at the Durham Choristers School because of his stuttering and appearance. Future Prime Minister Tony Blair, who also attended the school and was two years younger than Atkinson, has stated in the past that he vaguely remembers the treatment that Atkinson endured as a youngster there.
Following in his father’s footsteps, Atkinson earned a M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from The Queen’s College at Oxford. Still acting on the side, he embarked on a Ph.D. in electrical engineering for awhile before deciding to devote his full attention to acting. While Atkinson was studying for a doctorate in electrical engineering, Richard Curtis remembered the young Atkinson showing up at workshops for sketch material for a summer review at Oxford and never saying a word. Then the silent one got up and did an original sketch in which his stuttering disappeared.
Curtis said, “He did a monologue about driving followed by the thing he does now, where he mimes and talks at the same time. It was unlike anything I had ever seen. It was pure genius.”
He gained attention by doing a series of comedy shows for the BBC radio in 1978 that were known as “The Atkinson People.” Atkinson came onto the television radar screen in 1979 with the famous show Not the Nine O’Clock News. Later, he went off to do The Secret Policeman’s Ball before meeting up with Richard Curtis again for the immensely successful Blackadder, which the pair co-wrote. Tim McInnerny and Tony Robinson starred in the show and were later joined by Stephen Fry, Hugh Laurie and Miranda Richardson.
Atkinson’s character of Mr. Bean existed for 10 years before the character was even given a name. The Mr. Bean character catapulted Atkinson into international stardom as the show was seen all over the world. It was the highest-rated comedy on British TV in the 1990s; it was sold to more than 245 countries and 50 airlines. Later, there were movies such as Bean: The Ultimate Disaster Movie (1997) and Mr. Bean’s Holiday (2007). The actor has left open the door to the possibility of reprising the Mr. Bean character in the future.
When moviegoers in the U.S. saw the television ads for the October 21, 2011, release of the new Rowan Atkinson movie Johnny English Reborn, few, if any, knew that Atkinson, most famous for his character Mr. Bean, is a person who stuttered. Unlike some other famous actors, Rowan Atkinson’s stutter is not widely known. However, stuttering still is a factor in his life. Fans of the British actor might have been surprised to read in the weekly “10 Questions” column of the August 23, 2007, issue of Time magazine that one of the ten questions for the famous actor was, “Did you ever overcome your serious stutter?”
His answer was simply, “It comes and goes. I find when I play a character other than myself, the stammering disappears. That may have been some of the inspiration for pursuing the career I did.”

STORY : THE 3 KINGS

Once, there was a kingdom with a mysterious rule for the king, who rules the kingdom. The rule was “The king can rule the kingdom only for five years. On successful completion of his term, he’ll be left alone, in the inhabitable forest, filled with wild animals that exist beside the kingdom." Those who go there will surely die as a prey to wild animals.

The first king ruled the kingdom for five years. Each day the king feared about the day he would be left alone in the forest to die. His fear of death had made him an inefficient king and he was not able to concentrate on ruling. After completing his term, he was carried away by his servants and was left alone in the forest.

The second king came to rule. He was so scared because he saw the fate of him right in front of his eyes, when the first king was leaving. He ruled the kingdom only for three years. He died on the third year because of the fear and the stress.

The third king took over the kingdom. He was ruling happily and efficiently from the first day he became the king. The people were so happy during his period. He was never worried about what was about to come. He enjoyed every day of his life. His term was about to complete within a few days. The people were so sad that they are going to miss a good king. But the king never seemed to worry about the same. The day came and the King was about to leave the kingdom. Huge crowd was standing to send him off. The king waved his hand to the people and went happily.

One of his ministers asked him, “King, are you not afraid about your future?”

The King smiled and replied,” There is no reason to be afraid. On the first year of my term, when we fought with our neighboring kingdom, I asked all the slaves who lost to us, to go to the forest and rehabilitate it. On the second year of my term, I helped them to form a civilization there. On the third year of my term, I’ve asked the people over there to kill all the wild animals. On the fourth year of my term, I’ve taught the people how to cultivate, trade, learn. On the fifth year of my term, I’ve built a huge palace over there and have created a kingdom over there. Now my Job is to go there and be a king there too. All this I planned and got done while ruling over here.”

Sound familiar. We start as stronger one but after some time find that we are not prepared and hence have become highly vulnerable because of sudden/gradual changes of circumstances. We were either too much absorbed in doing present things and failed to notice changes taking place around us or too much concerned and fearful of future challenges and uncertainties (in later case also not able to perform present things effectively). When need to achieve a goal, we need to think ahead, plan and divide the goal into a set of short and long term goals and make sure we are on track to achieve the big one while performing the short ones. If we don't have a plan for ourselves, we'll either be part of someone else's or not part of anyone else's to risk obsolescence!!! While doing present things, it's better we think ahead and have an action plan for ourselves. Don't let day-to-day operations drive out our future planning. Rather than spending time in worrying about the future, spend time to think and plan, act on it one small step at a time, make a smooth and happy transition when time comes to stay stronger and better in charge of your life.

Planning is bringing the future into the present so that you can do something about it now.
